Job Purpose
Save the Children is initiating an education project in
Sinnar block of Nashik district. The project aims to create evidence based
model for improving quality of education for children attending government
schools. It will be implemented in collaboration with Education Department,
local communities and the School Management Committees in intervention schools.
Project Officer will oversee implementation of the
project in Sinnar under super vision of the State Program Manager (SPM). She/he
will be responsible for planning, monitoring and reporting of the project,
management of human resource, finances as well as liaison with local government
department.
Main Responsibilities of this position are:
• Play a lead role in implementing the Quality Education Project in Sinnar.
• Establish collaborative relationship and regularly engage with the block and district level government administration, Gram Panchayats, School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Principals for effective implementation of the project.
• Developing monthly individual/ team/ project work plans; undertake review and monitor progress against the plans aligning to the project deliverables.
• Undertake timely corrective measures to ensure project is implemented as per the agreed timelines and quality standards.
• Lead the project team and provide them regular support so that the project activities are effectively and efficiently executed on ground to meet the set deliverables.
• Create evidence base of the processes, activities, changes and impact of the project interventions on regular basis in coordination with Knowledge Management team of Save the Children.
• Data Collection and tracking of the coverage on regular basis as per Save the Children’s Knowledge Management Processes.
• Quality timely compliance on periodic reporting to the state office, donor and local government department.
• Liaising and networking with Panchayati Raj Institutions as per the requirement of the project and advocacy plans of Save the Children.
• Raising awareness of the project amongst stakeholders including school children, parents, block and district government representatives, academic institutions, local NGOs, media etc.
• Research, documentation, media coverage, and advocacy with different government departments (Education, Social Welfare).
• Engaging volunteer staff from donor, facilitating donor visits and adhering to the time commitment.
• Support the State Programme Manager in building Save the Children’s profile as the leading advocate for the rights of the children in Nashik.
Other Responsibilities
• Comply with the requirements of Save the Children’s Child Protection Policy to ensure maximum protection for children
• Ensure that you work to the best of your ability and demonstrate high levels of commitment to SC in order to ensure the objectives of your role and the country programme are met.
• Ensure the efficient use of all SC resources in order to maximise use of resources for benefiting children
• Contribute to a positive working environment
Professional Qualifications and Experience:
• Masters in Social work/ Sociology or any other relevant social sciences
• 5+ years of experience of working on education issues preferably with rural government schools in Maharashtra
• Candidates having experience of working on Quality Education Project would be preferred
Professional Competencies and other requirements:
• Comprehensive knowledge of key issues in elementary education
• Practical knowledge to prepare lesson plans, use of innovative teaching and learning tools and methods for improving learning outcomes in schools and ability to transfer these skills to other government teachers
• Commitment and desire to improve quality of education in government schools and willingness to closely work with government teachers, children and community members.
• Ability to operate and promote cost-effective approaches to maximize resources for children.
• Knowledge of Spoken English and Computers
• Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
• Willingness to travel extensively
• Commitment to Save the Children’s vision, mission and values.
• Ensure compliance with Save the Children’s policies and practices, including the Child Protection Policy.
