JOB DESCRIPTION
Convenor - Urban Global Initiative, Save the Children, Gurgaon
1. POSITION VACANT: Convenor
- Urban Global Initiative, Save the Children
2. BACKGROUND:
Save the Children, Bal Raksha, Bharat (SC BR) is India’s leading independent child rights’
organization and works in 18 states across the country, to make a difference in
the lives of the most socially-excluded children.
SC BR’s work in the
areas of Child Education, Health & Nutrition, Child Protection and
Humanitarian Response & Disaster Risk Reduction has benefitted lakhs of
children in India and last year alone reached over 8.5 lakh children. The
organization has existed in India since pre-Independence days.
Save the Children’s global strategy recognizes the trend of
dramatic increases in absolute numbers of deprived urban children, and the need
to responding to their needs. In 2013, Members responded by committing
resources to drive an Urban Strategy Initiative from October 2013 to December 2015.
During that period the Initiative, which was co-led by SC
US and SC
India, played a critical role in coordinating and prioritizing
learning and capacity building to ensure that the Save the Children becomes a
credible, recognized leader for children in cities. These efforts
culminated in a global meeting of the Urban Program Learning Group,
in New Delhi in March 2015, where all participants agreed to a Save the
Children Urban Value Proposition, a set of Urban Programming Guiding
Principles, and the need for the continuation of the Initiative through the
2016 – 18 strategy periods. This meeting also threw up the need for setting up
a Knowledge Hub for Save the Children.
The Initiative in Phase II is again being co-led by SC
US and SC
India. In this phase the Initiative will be jointly coordinated
through two urban convenors, one based out of US and one out of India. The
Urban convenor in US has been coordinating the activities since Phase I.
Currently we are looking for a professional who will be based out of India and
will co-lead with the urban convenor based out of the US
