Research Scientist
We are seeking for a dynamic, and self-motivated professional with excellent organizational and people skills for the position of Research Scientist.
The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries, focused on increasing food security and reducing poverty at an international scale. Positions will be based in the Ludhiana, Punjab in India and may require a travel within or outside India
The main responsibilities of this position will be:
• Under the guidance and collaboration with senior CIMMYT Staff, prioritize, execute and manage strategic research trials on Conservation Agriculture and sustainable intensification of maize and wheat based cropping system at BISA farm.
• Provide technical support in execution of collaborative strategic research trials with PAU at Ludhiana.
• Execute farmer- participatory activities on sustainable intensification of cotton- wheat systems.
• Support capacity building of students and partners on CA machinery, sustainable intensification, precision input management, use of standard protocols, tools and techniques for experimentation
• Collaborate with government and private sector partners as well as with other project staff of CIMMYT in ongoing
cropping systems research in the region.
• Collect, manage and synthesize databases (primary and secondary) on the biophysical conditions, the agronomic management and production economics across strategic research and on- farm participatory trials across project sites
• Organize the database and prepare input files for cropping systems models and input-output matrix tables for scenario analysis.
• Synthesize the research results in form of scientific publications and communicate research results to diverse communities, including scientists, change agents, policy makers and farmers.
• Participate in various meetings representing CIMMYT in various fora at local as well as national level
• Perform any other job as required by the organization
Desired qualifications, skills, experiences of the perspective candidate:
• Masters Degree in biological sciences with atleast 2 years field oriented research experience in agricultural sciences
• Excellent understanding and work experience of predominant cropping systems in India
• Excellent understanding and working experience on Conservation Agriculture production system particularly maize and wheat based systems
• Good knowledge of CA based mechanization and precision agriculture
• Ability to manage, statistically analyse and synthesize scientific data and translate research results in peer reviewed publications
• Computer literacy, with proficiency in the common software packages.
• Proficiency in the English language.
• Ability to work in multi-cultural environments and in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Willingness to spend considerable time away from home.
The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds.CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package, with a range of benefits including health insurance.
