The
UNV office in New York (ONY) is part of the Partnerships and Communications
Division (PCD). The office provides partnership development focused in UNDP
(HQ); UN Secretariat; NY-based UN organizations and UN Missions.
It
is responsible for implementation of the following functions:
·
Perform liaison and coordination functions in support
of partnership development between UNV and UNDP(HQ); and the UN secretariat
(e.g. UN-DESA, UN-DPKO/DFS, UN-DPI);
·
Build and maintain partnerships with NY-based UN
agencies;
·
Build and maintain partnerships relationship with
Permanent Missions to the UN;
·
Perform communications and advocacy functions that
promote the work of the UNV programme and volunteerism for peace and
development;
·
Perform administrative support functions for UNV Office
in New York (ONY) ensuring appropriate, thorough and timely recording and
reporting of administrative functioning.

OBJECTIVES OF THE
PROGRAMME : The objective of the Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief Department (PED) of the Pan American Health Organization is to increase health sector resilience to disasters. As a public health priority, increasing resilience of the health sector to disasters involves disaster risk reduction, preparedness, management, response and recovery. PED, funded largely by extra budgetary resources, assists Member States to increase the national and intersectoral capacity to prepare for, and respond to disasters related to any hazards (natural, man-made, biological, chemical, radio nuclear and others), and to mobilize human and financial resources to respond to the health effects in disaster-affected countries in the Region. PED is responsible for ensuring the implementation and updating of the PAHO/WHO Institutional Emergency and Disaster Response policy. |
