HelpAge India is a secular, apolitical, non-profit and non-governmental organisation, registered under the Indian Societies' Registration Act of 1860. Set up in 1978, HelpAge India works for the cause and care of disadvantaged older persons, with a view to improving the quality of their lives.
HelpAge India is one of the founding members of HelpAge International, a high profile confederation of non-profits from 97 member countries, representing the cause of the elderly at the United Nations.

HelpAge India works in the following areas:
(1) Elderly Rights: Elder Abuse in India, Reverse Mortgage, Senior Citizens Associations (SCAs), Ending Isolation, Health Insurance, Parents Maintenance Act, Union Budget Allocation and National Policy on Older Persons;
(2) Eldercare: Healthcare, Social Protection, Shelters, Specialized Care, Disaster and Mitigation;
(3) Supporters: Individual Volunteering, Corporates and Business Houses, Trusts and Foundations, Bilateral and Multilateral Agencies/ Funds, etc.
HelpAge India runs several programs addressing the needs of the disadvantaged elderly. These include Mobile Medical Units, Cataract Surgeries, Cancercare, Agecare Centres, Elder Helplines, Livelihood programmes and Tamaraikulam Elders Village.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) shall assume a strategic role in the overall management of the charity and be a key member of the senior management team. S/he shall support and complement the CEO in meaningfully advancing the mission of the organisation, with emphasis on building institutional credibility, strengthening programme delivery and supporting fundraising efforts, when necessary.
S/he shall also work collaboratively towards meeting VISION 2020 goals, participate in shared governance processes and provide support, when required to the CEO and other Board Members to seek funds from external sources, to enhance the organisation's reach and capability to accomplish its mission of service to poor and otherwise disadvantaged elderly people.
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior professional to play a leadership role at one of India’s most respected non-profits, focused on the cause, care and quality of life of disadvantaged older persons.
Key Job Responsibilities:
(1) Identify key activities and priorities in line with the VISION 2020 action plan and the organisation's mission and values, including organisation restructuring exercises and scaling-up of programmes to achieve the objectives set-out;
(2) Design, implement and communicate strategy for operational management and programme development, to meet agreed organisational performance plans within budgets and timelines;
(3) Establish and maintain appropriate systems for monitoring and measuring necessary aspects of operational management and development;
(4) Report to the CEO on operational issues, opportunities, development plans, achievements, challenges and budgets;
(5) Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout programme areas, focusing on systems and process improvement based on analysis of data generated from all departments;
(6) Lead a high performing field team by providing support from the head office and by further developing, implementing and streamlining operational policies consistent with their feedback;
(7) Set and manage performance targets of programme teams, ensuring staffing levels are met and professional management standards are adhered to while maintaining working knowledge of the organisation's policies and regulations;
(8) Provide regular and ongoing opportunities for all staff to give feedback on programme operations and manage employee communication in conjunction with the CEO and Country Head Human Resources;
(9) Manage the programme and operational aspects of the annual budget in conjunction with the Country Head Finance and the CEO;
(10) Ensure that all department heads, including regional teams are meeting programme and fundraising targets and that costs are tracked regularly and under control, as per budget.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualification:
MBA or post graduate in development, or similar advanced degree, from a reputed academic or professional institution.
Experience:
(1) Minimum 20 years of relevant experience with progressive leadership exposure;
(2) At least three years of experience in a predominantly supervisory position with a growth oriented organisation;
(3) Candidates with experience in the not for profit sector shall be preferred;
(4) Prior experience in the corporate sector, in a role that required significant coordination and result orientation, shall be an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
(1) Demonstrated skills in leading diverse work teams and implementing organisation-wide operational and managerial processes across a broad geography;
(2) Broad knowledge and experience in policy development and implementation, project management, organisation development, and people management in a large-scale organisation;
(3) Outstanding interpersonal skills, including above average oral and written communication skills;
(4) Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the Board of Directors;
(5) Ongoing affiliations with leaders in successful companies and organisations that practice effective operations management;
(6) Familiarity with change management;
(7) A commitment to the organisations role and mission;
(8) Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and lead teams across a broad array of disciplines and diverse geographies;
