2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

The Swedish Organization for Individual Relief (SOIR-IM) is an Indian NGO working in the fields of education and economic empowerment. SOIR-IM has been working in India since the 1970s through supporting partners in the form of NGOs. Currently SOIR-IM has eight partner organizations. SOIR-IMoffice currently employs 19 staff whereof eight office staff.

 3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

SOIR-IM wishes to recruit a development program management professional. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with a strong commitment to the values and mission of fighting poverty and exclusion to come on board with a credible INGO, doing excellent grassroots work in India.
Reporting to the Director, the Program Officer shall be responsible for planning and implementing activities in accordance with SOIR-IM’s overall strategic and annual operational plans, as well as theDirector’s directives. S/he shall continuously be updating the Director about ongoing activities.

Key roles and responsibilities:

(1) Maintain regular contact and dialogue and act as an advisor to partner organizations;
(2) Support and control the assessment, analysis, planning, monitoring, evaluating, reporting and audit processes of partner organisations, along with interventions, resulting in the effective and efficient use of funds;
(3) Keep the Director informed of activities, achievements, changes, challenges and other relevant issues related to each partner organisation; 
(4) Ensure the quality of plans and reports submitted by partner organisations to the office and enhance their understanding of SOIR-IM agreements, policies and guidelines; (5) Contribute to the office’s reports with specific data from each partner organisation;
(6) Monitor the interventions of partner organisations, through field travel and other types of follow-up work; Develop monitoring reports and  document the progress of partner organisations in accordance with the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) system of SOIR-IM; 
(6) Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge and analysis about the partner organisations and their interventions, results, strengths and weaknesses, capacity requirements and organisational development, along with facilitating the organisational and capacity development of partner organisations based on their needs and priorities; 
(7) Assist in improving SOIR-IM’s and partner organisation’s systems for PME & Reporting work; 
(8) Ensure that the operations of the partner organisations comply with SOIR-IM’s policies, regulations and strategic focus in India; 
(9) Contribute to the internal and external communication of SOIR-IM in terms of updates about partner organisations, their interventions and achievements; 
(10) Contribute to SOIR-IM’s overall capacity development by giving feedback to the donor on new tools, guidelines and policies that are being drafted;
(11) Maintain close cooperation and coordination with other SOIR-IM staff in order to effectively and efficiently accomplish individual and joint duties and objectives; 
(12) Assist in other office related work, such as receiving guests, shopping for supplies, arranging trainings and meetings etc.


4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualifications: 

University degree in development studies, social sciences, social work, international relations, human rights or related field.


Experience:

(1) Minimum five years of relevant experience within the development sector; 
(2) Supporting small and local NGOs in their development projects;   
(3) Prior experience of working with education and/or livelihood development projects; 
(4) Understanding of methodologies regarding organizational development and capacity building of NGO’s, is desirable.


Skills and Competencies:

(1) Good skills in project management, including planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting;
(2) Good understanding of the dynamics, opportunities and challenges for civil society organizations in India;
(3) Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building, networking, presentation, partnership development and internal and external communication skills;
(4) Excellent written and verbal skills in English; 
(5) Excellent organizational skills; 
(6) Ability to work independently and responsibly and take initiative, but should also be a good team-player;
(7) Ability to meet deadlines work and work effectively on a range of tasks; 
(8) Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint; 
(9) Willing to travel frequently.


5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

The gross remuneration budgeted for this position is in the range of INR 4-5 lacs per annum, with possibility for improvement in the case of exceptional candidates.

6. TENURE:

This is a full-time permanent position, with six months of probation.
