Job Description
Title: Project Officer (2 positions)
Location: Ranka (Garwa District) and Satbarwa (Palamu district) Jharkhand
Reporting To: Senior Project Coordinator
About the project: ChildFund India is embarking on a three year project to strengthen primary education in 80 rural schools of Garwa and Palamu districts of Jharkhand. The project will focus on strengthening teachers’ capacity in multi-grade and child friendly teaching methodologies, with the aim of increasing learning and completion levels of primary schools students in the targeted schools. The project will also mobilize communities to demand quality education for their children, and work for greater involvement of School Management Committees in school monitoring and management.
Job Summary: The Project Officer(s) will support the implementation of the project in one block each of Garwa and Palamu districts of Jharkhand state.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure effective implementation of the project through preparation of work plans and timely delivery of project activities in the designated block through collaboration with 40 targeted schools.
• Develop close rapport and working relationship with Block Resource Centre and Cluster Resource Centre for teachers training programs
• Engage with communities to implement mobilization strategies to create a demand for quality education; engage with and mobilize School Management Committees for regular meetings and preparation of school development plans
• Identify and supervise volunteers to work with schoolchildren and run Child Learning centres in the targeted schools
• Maintain and update project data and share analysis and trends with supervisor; prepare periodic project progress reports and support the Senior Project Coordinator in effective reporting of the project to donors and external stakeholders; identify and document human interest stories
• Represent the organization in external forums through presentations, networking, publications, and engagement in the development discourse.
  
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Degree in Social Work, Education, Sociology or other Social Sciences
  • 4 to 6 years of experience of programs related to education
  • Experience of working with partner organizations and coordinating with multiple stakeholders
  • Up to 70% travel required
COMPETENCIES:
  • Knowledge of participatory community development approaches
  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, with familiarity in using internet and Microsoft Office applications
  • Organized, team player, self-starter and results-oriented individual
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken Hindi and English. Knowledge of local language will be an asset.
  • Strong integrity, commitment and dedication to the cause of children
