JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Program Manager - Education

Location: New Delhi     

Reporting to:Technical Advisor, Life Stage 2

SUMMARY

ChildFund India has recently been awarded a grant “250 Faces of Hope: Scholarship Program” to support the higher education of 250 girls and young women from deprived, excluded and vulnerable communities.
The project to be implemented in the following locations – Jhabua, Dhar and Alirajpur districts in Madhya Pradesh, Udaipur district in Rajasthan and Malkangiri, Nuapada and Kalahandi districts of Orissa - will target girls and young women in the 16 to 24 years age group over a period of 3 years to complete their higher education

The Program Manager will provide leadership and direction to this multistate project to achieve the larger goal of creating a National Scholarship Program over a period of time. S/he will guide a team of 2 coordinators in effective planning and implementation of the project.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for leadership of the Girls Scholarship Program. This includes working closely with the Program Quality, Program Implementation and Area teams for identification of beneficiaries, guidance on opportunities available, identification of educational institutes, follow up support to beneficiaries, families and communities
  • Manage a team to effectively implement the project, including collaboration with colleagues across locations, and developing work plans and monitoring their execution and outcomes
  • Develop and execute sound project management approach that includes building field level staff and partner capacity, providing timely support to the field coordinators, timely monitoring, financial oversight and monitoring of the project
  • Work with and support partners in successful implementation of the project; engage and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to enhance quality and effectiveness of project interventions
  • Effectively engage with donors and media to promote and expand the scope of the project
  • Contribute to the learning agenda of ChildFund India aligned with ChildFund International’s theory of change and life stage approach
  • Represent the organization in external forums through presentations, networking, publications, and engagement in the development discourse
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, Sociology or other Social Sciences
  • 8-10 years of experience in the management and execution of programs related to education and / or gender
  • Experience of implementing projects with partner organizations and ability to effectively coordinate with multiple stakeholders
  • Proven ability to set strategic direction and develop operational plans
  • Demonstrated success in the management and development of teams
  • Up to 70% travel required
  • Women candidates will be given preference
COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge of participatory community development approaches
  • Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, with familiarity in using internet and Microsoft Office applications
  • Organized, team player, self-starter and results-oriented individual
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken Hindi and English. Knowledge of local language will be an asset
  • Strong integrity, commitment and dedication to the cause of children
EDUCATION
  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences
