OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
In collaboration with Member States, international organizations, NGOs and other WHO programmes, to develop, coordinate and evaluate the Region's need for strengthening the health system's capacity to address priority nutrition and food safety issues; to advise the national authorities on nutrition policies and food safety programmes which are aimed at achieving the optimum level of health in an integrated and equitable fashion.
Description of duties:
Under the broad guidance of the Director, Programme Management (DPM) and direct supervision of the Director, Family Health and Research (FHR), the incumbent has the following responsibilities:

(1) To manage, support and evaluate the regional and country activities with the objective of achieving the goals of the Nutrition for Health and Development programme and Food Safety, and to advise the Regional Director on all aspects including priorities and policies in activities which are aimed at the reduction of malnutrition, improvement in the quality of nutritional status of the people in the Member States throughout the life course, and ensuring food safety;

(2) To provide technical and operational support to national health authorities for nutrition in health and related programmes including food safety and to coordinate programme activities with UN agencies, NGOs, academic institutions and other organizations working in the field of nutrition and food safety;

(3) To collaborate with national authorities in developing strategies, plans and activities to strengthen the on-going nutrition programme, and to integrate nutrition into relevant areas of work, including building capacity in nutrition promotion and research;

(4) To provide advocacy and training for planning and managing nutrition interventions and food safety practices;

(5) To assist in monitoring, nutrition surveillance and evaluation in the area of nutrition and diet-related chronic diseases;

(6) To periodically update and maintain intranet contents in the area of Nutrition for Health and Development; and

(7) Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Medical degree with post-graduation in public health nutrition.
Skills: 
Excellent knowledge of public health nutrition, managing nutrition programmes, and conducting relevant operational research, promoting advocacy for nutrition, and having problem-solving capabilities. Updated knowledge of current public health nutrition priorities; ability to appreciate and adapt to local conditions; ability to establish good working relationships at national, regional and international levels with persons of multiple skills, and different cultural background. Proven track record of functioning and effectively contributing as member of a multi-disciplinary team in various international settings.

Other Skills (e.g. IT): Good computer skills.
Experience:
Essential: At least 10 years of relevant experience including five years of international experience at senior technical and managerial levels in facilitating/ implementation of public health nutrition and/or Food safety Programmes.

Desirable: Knowledge of WHO programmes and policies and public health nutrition programmes. Experience in developing countries is an asset.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 80,887 at single rate
USD 87,069 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 41 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
