Save the Children, Bal Raksha, Bharat (SC BRB) is India’s leading independent child rights’ organization and works in 18 states across the country, to make a difference in the lives of the most socially-excluded children.
SC BRB’s work in the areas of Child Education, Health & Nutrition, Child Protection and Humanitarian Response & Disaster Risk Reduction has benefitted lakhs of children in India and last year alone reached over 8.5 lakh children. The organization has existed in India since pre-Independence days.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Save the Children has recently developed a new strategy, and one of the nine global priorities is to develop an increased priority on knowledge of what works for children. This includes a focus on developing a culture of knowledge, analytical capacity and systems.
Reporting to the CEO, Save the Children, Bal Raksha, Bharat and closely collaborating with CEO ofSave the Children US, the Director, Global Knowledge will be responsible for implementing the strategy for increased priority on knowledge of what works for children, developing and leading Save the Children’s global knowledge function around the globe, led by SCBR and SC-US with SC Internationaland other Members. This role is an exciting opportunity in steering one of the world’s largest international NGOs to better use its existing knowledge internally and externally to create a great impact for children around the world.
Note: This position will require 25% travel outside of India.  This position will initially have one direct report, and coordinate a larger virtual team across various countries and time zones.
Key Job Responsibilities
A. Develop global Save the Children knowledge vision and strategy
(1) Build on existing Save the Children global strategy, develop detailed plan for how to develop the knowledge function at Save the Children, incorporate best practice from other organizations;
(2) Outline Save the Children knowledge vision that will energize staff and donors;
(3) Achieve clarity across the organization as to the kinds of knowledge that we seek to harness;
(4) Outline how Save the Children knowledge will lead directly to greater impact for children, and progressSC toward the three breakthroughs SC aims to catalyze for children;
(5) Develop clear criteria for success, and metrics to track progress toward that outcome;
(6) Design, implement and manage the governance process for global knowledge.
B. Embed a culture of knowledge across Save the Children 
(1) Develop and implement a focused change program, including concrete specific activities, that will embed a culture of knowledge across Save the Children; 
(2) Serve as a public change ambassador for knowledge across Save the Children, including presentations at global meetings and outreach to existing members and SCI staff;
(3) Develop and implement a communications plan in support of the change program; 
(4) Present to senior most bodies across Save the Children around the impact of knowledge in creating change for children, including CEO Steering Group and SC Board;
(5) Work with other member organizations and Save the Children International to implement the change and communications plans.
C. Oversee development and implementation of knowledge system for both internal and external sharing 
(1) Identify the requirements of a global knowledge system;
(2) Work with global Save the Children technology departments and vendors to identify the right system to use (likely modification of an existing system);
(3) Serve as the business partner to work with technology departments to develop and roll-out system, including stakeholder management to get all of Save the Children Members and SCI on one consistent system.
D. Lead a virtual network of knowledge practitioners across Save the Children 
(1) Identify and assemble existing knowledge expertise and resources across Save the Children; develop and lead a global community of practice;
(2) Create capacity across Save the Children to identify what works and develop programs for best practice sharing;
(3) Build capacity in four country office and two members related to specific signature programs.
E. Define and implement knowledge tools and processes
(1) Work with current knowledge practitioners to identify existing tools and processes; identify gaps and areas where harmonization is needed;
(2) Create global suite of knowledge tools and processes where needed to support program staff in capturing and sharing knowledge (working closely with existing Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning tools);
(3) Roll out tools and processes across the global organization.
F. Work with Save the Children members to secure sustainable funding stream for global knowledge program 
(1) Lay out compelling donor proposition for Save the Children’s knowledge program, including articulation of knowledge that will allow Save the Children to have a greater impact for children;
(2) Work with Save the Children members to identify and approach potential donors (with aim to have program 100% grant funded by 2019).
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualification:
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree; MBA or Master’s Degree is preferred.
Experience:
(1) 10 years’ working in a global environment
(2) At least five years working in an international non-profit organization preferred;
(3) Experience in developing, running or working in a knowledge management program;
(4) Management consulting experience will be helpful.
Skills and Competencies:
(1) Experience in developing and or executing change programs in large, complex global organizations;
(2) Strong leadership skills and the ability to operate as a global leader with understanding and appreciation for regional differences;
(3) Strong stakeholder management skills and experience; ability to partner with senior level partners to mobilize change across the global organization;
(4) Experience working with Monitoring & Evaluation programs and in Knowledge Management leadership roles;
(5) Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
(6) Experience developing and rolling out global technology systems; 
(7) Strong business acumen and the ability to make strategic decisions;
(8) Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload and to work to tight deadlines with limited supervision;
(9) Project management experience;
(10) Proven track record of delivering results;
(11) Experience managing a global team (including experience managing and mobilizing teams without solid line reporting relationships);
(12) Passion for Save the Children’s vision and mission, and a commitment to its values;
(13) Written and verbal fluency in English.
