Purpose of the Post
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Specialist and overall guidance of the
Chief, Child Development of Nutrition, the Programme Officer is responsible for
planning of programme/project activities, progress reporting and coordination
of partners. Specifically, the incumbent will serve as a Coordinator of the
Network of Food Fortification Partners in India for which UNICEFhas
been serving as a Secretariat since 2013. UNICEF has committed
to support national and state governments to scale up initiatives in food
fortification and in particular to lead the partners’ food fortification
network.In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and managing the donors of UNICEF Nutrition programme by providing them with timely and relevant information.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Serve as a Coordinator of the Food Fortification Network in India for which UNICEF serves as a Secretariat. This includes
i) Coordinating activities of various stakeholders in food fortification;
ii) Identifying and collecting key reports and publications that are relevant to food fortification programmes and integrate the collected materials in the most organized manner, so that the network can function as a resource agency for food fortification;
iii) Coordinating the partners meeting every 1-2 months, document progress, and disseminate reports to partners;
iv) Assisting in efforts to advocate on fortification and create enabling environment for food fortification;
2. Under the guidance of the Nutrition Specialist (L4), lead UNICEF’s efforts to mainstream the food fortification agenda in India. This includes
i) Supporting UNICEF state programmes to scale up national and state initiatives in food fortification;
ii) Undertake field visits to monitor initiatives in food fortification and identify and recommend necessary actions for adjustments
3. Support UNICEF’s efforts to scale up micronutrient and anaemia control programme both at national and state level. This includes
i) Assist in providing technical oversight to UNICEF State offices to strengthen the VAS and deworming programmes;
ii) Assist in providing technical oversight to UNCEF State offices to strengthen the USI prpgramme.
4. Assist in managing major donors of the UNICEF Nutrition Programme. This includes
i) Collecting and assembling data and background information for consolidation of progress and final reports to major programme donors of UNICEF Nutrition programmes (Mittal, BMGF, IKEA, CIFF etc);
ii) Analyzing programme status, taking corrective actions as necessary, and recommending appropriate adjustments;
iii) Assist in drafting sections of donor, annual and other required reports.
5. Maintains the ‘Essential Nutrition Library’ system developed for the UNICEF Nutrition Programme:
i) Identify recent maternal and child nutrition reports and publications that are relevant to the CDN section policies and programmes and update the library;
ii) Correspond with UNICEF state offices, regional office and headquarters to collect essential nutrition publications and update the library;
iii) Identify accredited e-learning nutrition and knowledge management courses that can support the overall capacity building initiative
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
a) Education
University degree in Public Health & Nutrition, Health Sciences, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family and Community Health & Nutrition, Nutritional Epidemiology, Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Public Health Preparedness, Health Emergency Preparedness, or other relevant discipline(s).
Training in gender and in nutrition programmes that promote gender equality and asset.
b) Work Experience
Two years practical, professional work experience in project coordination, liaising with partners including data analysis. Experience of working in nutrition sector desirable
c) Languages
Fluency in English and another UN language required. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
