Wealth Creation Project Coordinator - Heifer International (Apply by: February 29, 2016)

Job Description

Purpose/Function: 

The main purpose of the Wealth Creation Project Coordinator is to coordinate the implementation of the Wealth Creation project whose overall goal is to increase income and employment for smallholder farmers in Western Kenya. The role is responsible for the delivery of the project targeting working with 36 community groups in Homabay, Migori and Rachuonyo and 3 producer marketing hubs in Nambale, Khwisero and Ringo for a total of 8,250 households and 49,500 people. The project is implemented in partnership with Send a Cow who are the main implementing partner and the role involves a field coordination element with the partner that includes joint planning, review, implementation and reporting. The Project Coordinator coordinates the work of the for the project staff in the Homabay field office and the business team in the SAC-K Kakamega field office including coordinating all their inputs into the successful mobilization, training and capacity building of the target project beneficiaries. The Coordinator will liaise closely with the relevant government departments and extension personnel to coordinate extension support for the hubs and the community groups and also support the stimulation of private sector awareness and business linkages. The Coordinator undertake the coordination of the key project inputs including the procurement and delivery of livestock and other key project assets and subsequently monitoring the implementation of the passing on the gift process amongst the beneficiary groups. The Coordinator will also undertake field Monitoring and Evaluation activities including baseline data collection, regular monthly and quarterly project reporting and the final project evaluation.

Responsibilities:

A. Project Management
Assume overall responsibility for the management of the staff, resources and office in the project implementation area in Western Kenya including Homabay Field Office.
B. Annual planning and budgeting
a. Coordinate the development of quarterly and annual work plans and budgets for the project and monitor the budgets and work plans to ensure project spending and implementation are on track.
b. Coordinate the planning of joint quarterly and annual planning sessions with Send a Cow and other key project stakeholders.
C. Project reporting
Produce timely and accurate project reports, at regular monthly, quarterly and annual and biennial as per the project donor contract and the requirements of the DFID, Big Lottery and SAC-K.
D. Business Development, linkages and partnerships
Coordinate the functions of the business team in designing and implementing partnerships that will entail provision of specialized business advisory services and training to address the commercial needs of dairy hubs.
E. Community Groups Capacity Building and Sustainability
a. With the support of the Training Coordinater, undertake the development and delivery of a comprehensive training curriculum and the subsequent training of groups in group dynamics, animal health, Heifer Cornerstones, business and financial management, milk quality and livestock feeding.
b. Identify MFIs/Banks ready to engage with community groups and assist in developing financing options with a view to increase savings mobilization and financial services access.

F. Establish in collaboration with the county extension government an effective extension infrastructure to support farmers.
With the support of the Director of Programmes, maintain good partnership with the county government extension to support an effective animal health service delivery model that will include trained community based animal health workers to provide animal health and artificial insemination services.
G. Collaboration and partnership.
With the support of the Director of Programmes, maintain and close collaboration with the county government and other NGOs that will support the sustainability of the project interventions.
H. Monitoring and Evaluation.
Establish against the project logframe a Monitoring and Evaluation framework and lead the field data collection processes for the baseline, mid- term reviews and final evaluations and any impact assessment studies with support from the Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
I. Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Experience

Minimum requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Animal Production, Community Development management or other equivalent qualifications plus two (2) years relevant experience in community development/ project management/rural development work.
