Project Manager - Drishtee Foundation

Project Description: As part of our Capacity Building initiative, Drishtee Foundation has partnered with Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (Jeevika) for training and placement of 3000 rural poor youth in 6 districts of Bihar in next 3 years. The project seeks to identify, design and impart employability training to the target youth that equips them with skill sets to help earn sustainable livelihood by acquiring employment in the organized sector. The project is in align with Drishtee’s 4C (Community, Capacity, Credit and Channel) approach.

The centers will be based in 6 districts ( Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria and Purnia) of Bihar that will offer vocational training to rural youth in sectors like Agriculture & Food Processing, Textile & Garments, and Building & Construction.

Position Description: 

a) Designation: Project Manager

b) Main Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Manager will lead entire program of Jeevika – Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project in the state of Bihar. S/he will review on an ongoing basis training program being offered and develop new programs/ activities as needs emerge. S/he will be responsible for all activities pertaining to planning, organizing, operations, finance and human resource. The Project Manager will inform the Head-Operations of the program issues, accomplishments and also seek his advice in various matters.
Major responsibilities are: 

Duty & Responsibilities


  • Recruit the team of Center/District Managers, Field Mobilisers and Trainers in various districts within Bihar
Planning & Implementation 
  • Support district teams in setup and start of the Skill Development Centers as per the roll-out plan
  • Plan strategy for mobilization of candidates in the districts to achieve the target
Training Delivery 
  • Monitoring Training Delivery Quality in all the training centers
  • Periodically audit of training centers
  • Identify and develop partnerships with organizations interested in hiring our candidates
  • Focus on finding opportunities at the district/state level
  • Receive the timely reports from the district teams
  • Monthly progress reports to presented to the relevant Government Departments and Drishtee management
  • Liaison with State and District level Government officials as and when required
Managing Finances 
  • Monthly and quarterly budgeting of expenses
  • Helping and guiding the team members to achieve set targets
  • Mentoring the team and empowering them to take initiative in decision-making
  • One-on-one mentoring with individual members to assist them in their professional growth
  • Encouraging team spirit and team work
Process Adherence 
  • Follow the laid down procedures of Aajeevika Guidelines/SOP and Drishtee related to the project
  • Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the program focusing on systems and process improvement
  • Ensure that all program activities operate consistently within the mission and values of Drishtee.
c) Desired Qualification Level: Post Graduate / MBA

d) Most Relevant Experience: 10 to 15 years of relevant experience with a minimum of 2 years of experience supervising staff at field level especially in rural areas and across broad geography.

e) Most Important Skills: 


Project Management 
  • Ability to plan and implement the program in the given timeline and within budget.
  • Ability to manage multiple facets of the project and to effectively manage a team
  • Ability to be an approachable leader that can build, motivate and mobilise a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to coordinate different tasks and juggle multiple responsibilities in an orderly manner
  • Ability to form contacts with various stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders including Government Officials, Large Organisations and Candidates
  • Ability to work effectively on Word, Excel, Power-point, Internet
  • Passionate about working for rural communities
