Brief on the Organization:

The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI)
is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. PHFI is headquartered in New Delhi with national presence through its constituent units of regional Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) and Centres of Applied Research in core public health themes. The Foundation, established in 2006 as a public private initiative, is governed by an independent board comprising of senior government officials, eminent Indian and International academic and leaders, civil society representatives and corporate leaders. Project Brief:

A demographic transition has been observed all across the world with a strong trend towards global population ageing. As life expectancy increases around the world, it is a priority to determine if more of the extra years being added are healthy years, or years that are likely to be spent in poor health. This is especially important for Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs) of the world which are home to almost two thirds of the world’s population and are characterised by widespread inequalities in health across the entire spectrum of socioeconomic hierarchy. This study intends to analyse the social inequalities and social gradients, often referred to as the ‘’causes of the causes’’ for Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and whether similarities exist in the socio-economic patterning of NCDs in India and other LMICs.

Deliverables:

• Participate in the conduct of research studies, including review of literature, preparation of the tools, guidelines and instruments for the research studies, analysis and writing up of research findings, under the guidance of senior research staff.
• Assist in the preparation of new grant proposals including such that may support their own continuation
• Communicating with donors, government officers and offices, partner organisations, stake holders or any other agencies as guided by the Senior Scientist/ reporting officer.
• To provide support for necessary administrative affairs related to the project, as required.
• Prepare research reports and jointly author peer-reviewed publications in accordance with the aims of the research project.
• Prepare draft reports/ updates related to the project, and get approvals from the Senior Scientist and PI.
• Conduct process documentation of the project activities and provide help in creating operational tool kit.

Qualification:

Essential

• Minimum of a Masters or equivalent degree in Public Health or relevant social or health sciences.
• Excellent analytical and writing capacity and in-depth understanding of and experience in quantitative research.

Desirable
• Training in quantitative research methods; proven experience of working on datasets.
• Exposure to biostatistics and data management; Proficiency in the usage of computer (MS-Word, MS Powerpoint, MS-Excel, MS Access); Experience in literature review and data analysis; Experience in writing well-presented reports and publications.

Experience:

Essential

• 2-3 years of work experience.
• Prior research experience involving analytical and writing skills and involvement in quantitative research.

Desirable
• Authorship of peer reviewed publications and research presentations, participation in academic conferences and seminars.
Annual Salary (CTC) will be approximately based on the available skills and fitment of the incumbent as per the selection process.
