OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To improve disease prevention and control
Description of duties:
Under the supervision of World Health Organization (WHO) Representative of Ethiopia, and the cluster coordinator, the incumbent shall perform the following:-

1. Provides technical assistance to Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus in developing proposals, plans and appropriate strategies;

2. Facilitates the accelerated implementation disease prevention and surveillance strategies and guidelines

3. Participates in monitoring and evaluation of the project activities, in collaboration with the Regional Health Bureaus and Federal ministry of health;

4. Strengthens the epidemiological surveillance, focusing on immediate notification and reporting, keeping track of situations and trends at facility village, district and regional levels;

5. Participates in the preparation and the organization of regional and district training activities and follow up assessment of trainees and facilitators to ensure quality of training and performance;

6. Facilitates consultations with partners and other stake holders, and build partnership for planning and resource mobilization,

7. Strengthens the active case search and surveillance, communication and social mobilization activities;

8. Improves the documentation at each level, and support the national certification commission activities and report regularly;

9. Works closely with thematic working groups in MOH and RHBs;

10. Actively engages in data collection, analysis and preparation of field reports;

11. Leads/conducts epidemic investigation and response activities

12. Performs other related duties as required by the WHO Representative including participation in events, conferences and meetings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:-

Degree in one of Health related fields with public health and/ or epidemiology post-graduate training or experience is essential;
Skills: 
Working knowledge of computer software, especially word processing, presentation and spread sheet applications.

Experience:
Essential:-

- At least 5 years of work experience in the areas of disease prevention and control or surveillance preferably in Regional health bureaus or FMOH
- Experience in project management or public health related activities is essential;
- Knowledge and field experience in disease prevention and control activities

Desirable:

- Previous work experience in UN or other international Non-governmental organizations is advantageous;
- Experience in management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health care activities
Languages:
- Excellent working knowledge of English
- Good working knowledge of the official language of the Country
- Knowledge of French would be an advantage 
Additional Information:
 Annual remuneration: USD 19,331 Payable in ETB

 Duty station: Ethiopia/Various Region
