Title: Director of Fundraising and Communications  
Location: Bangalore/Delhi
Reporting to: National Director

SUMMARY

Reporting to and working closely with the National Director s/he will be responsible for leading and managing the fundraising team and for raising the funds required to maintain and expand ChildFund India activities for the benefit of our children.
As part of a successful team you will play a significant role in the growth and development of the organisation, and an important part in developing an integrated approach across all parts of Childfund India.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy
  • Devise, develop and implement a successful and sustainable income generation strategy and annual plans which supports the charity’s overall strategic development
  • Develop, implement and report on the communications strategy to raise awareness of the charity and its work
  • Contribute to the organisation’s overall strategic direction
Fundraising
  • Development of Corporate partnerships and Major Donor programme to become a key income stream
  • Ensure the effective implementation of strategies for fundraising, developing departmental operating plans to meet or exceed fundraising targets
  • Work with the programme team to identify and develop targeted fundraising projects
  • Nurture and manage key supporter relationships in order to maximise their long-term contribution to the organisation
  • Identify new and creative opportunities for increasing and generating income
  • Ensure a varied range of income sources are secured and developed which address all relevant donor audiences and employ a range of fundraising methods and techniques
  • Build new relationships with trusts, major donors and individuals with a view to increasing financial support
  • Raise and manage statutory income grants with support from programme team
  • Liaising closely with the Head of Finance on income and expenditure trends and setting annual and multi-year income and expenditure budgets
  • Keep the National Director and the Board of Trustees fully informed of all fundraising activities by preparing reports and attending management and Trustees meetings to present and discuss plans and activities
  • Keep up to date with developments and compliance in fundraising, data protection and other relevant legislation and standards
Management
  • Provide management, support and leadership to the fundraising team, managing activities and performance to achieve individual and team objectives
  • Undertake line management responsibilities, setting objectives and effectively monitoring performance and ensuring opportunities for training and personal development
  • Participate in the general management of the organisation through the Senior Management Team including strategic and business planning, budget setting, policy development, ad hoc project management, ensuring the focus on service user involvement and impact assessment
  • Joint responsibility with Director of Programme Implementation for the project management of large grants
External Communications  
  • Maximising the involvement of ChildFund India supporters and attracting new supporters to the organisation
  • Deliver a communications strategy that creates and maintains awareness of ChildFund India and our work to meet strategic objectives
  • Responsibility for brand development
  • Plan and develop policy, campaigning and lobbying and ensuring a longer term plan for campaigning
  • Lead on the management of key stakeholder relationships
General
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of ChildFund India activities
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality at all times
  • Carry out all duties with full regard to ChildFund India Policies
  • Take reasonable steps to ensure health and safety at work at all times
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as may be required by the National Director from time to time
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrable track record of fundraising success, with practical experience of fundraising techniques, particularly with Corporates and Major Donor fundraising
  • Proven ability in strategy development and implementation
  • Successful experience of managing and leading fundraising staff
  • Experience of developing and implementing innovative fundraising programmes
  • Experience of developing supporter communication across different media including digital and traditional channels
  • Experience of designing, delivering and managing an effective communications strategy
  • Successful experience of trust, foundation, individual and corporate fundraising
COMPETENCIES
  • Exceptionally convincing and persuasive written and oral skills with the ability to present and convey ideas and issues clearly and coherently
  • Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder and donor relationships
  • Track record of bringing innovative creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organisation and its services
