1. POSITION VACANT:
National Manager for Health & Nutrition
2. ORGANISATION BACKGROUND:
Save the Children, Bal Raksha, Bharat (SC BR) is India’s leading independent child rights’
organization and works in 18 states across the country, to make a difference in
the lives of the most socially-excluded children.
SC BR’s work in
the areas of Child Education, Health & Nutrition, Child Protection and
Humanitarian Response & Disaster Risk Reduction has benefitted lakhs of
children in India and last year alone reached over 8.5 lakh children. The
organization has existed
in India since pre-Independence days.
SC BR is a member of the International Save
the Children Alliance coalition,
a global network of organisations working for the betterment of the most
disadvantaged children in more than 120 countries in the world.
India has unacceptably high levels of child mortality and
malnutrition. To contribute to newborn and child survival SC
BR has launched a
campaign within India and internationally called Every
One. Save the Children India hopes to influence this change by
combining effective programme, advocacy and popular mobilisation interventions.
In 2008 and 2009, SC BR initiated health and nutrition
programmes in West Bengal, Rajasthan, Mumbai and New Delhi, and is currently
extending their interventions in these states, as well as in the states of
Bihar and Jharkhand. Over the next few years, SC BR will be focusing significant efforts
and resources onto this area, in India and internationally, and plans to extend
and deepen all their programmes.
SC BR is
working towards achieving significantly reduced child mortality and
malnutrition, to be achieved through:
(1) Increased access and availability of health and nutrition
services for children;
(2) Improved quality of Government health and nutrition services for children;
(3) Increased community knowledge of, attitude towards and use of key health and nutrition services;
(4) Improved public health awareness and behaviour;
(5) More effective central and state-level policies and resource allocation for maternal, newborn and child health, and nutrition;
(6) A particular focus on identifying and supporting ways of dramatically reducing the unacceptably high levels of neo-natal mortality, through adoption of high impact cost effective interventions addressing the continuum of care.

SC BR is
looking for an experienced and dynamic public health professional to lead their
efforts to improve maternal, neonatal and child health indicators in India. The
incumbent should share the organization’s passionate commitment to improving
the health and nutritional status of India’s children, and believe that this
can be achieved.
3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
The National Manager- Health and Nutrition shall be responsible for overall
design and implementation of effective health and nutrition programmes for SC
BR in India.
Key Job Responsibilities:

(1) Develop and maintain an up-to-date, relevant and high quality
health and nutrition programme strategy for SC BR;
(2) Contribute expertise and insight into the development of policy and advocacy strategies for SC BR for both health and nutrition, for use nationally and internationally;
(3) Represent SC BR, nationally and at state level, on health and nutrition issues in India, working closely with senior colleagues and a wide and influential external network;
(4) Develop close working relationships with relevant counterparts at other Save the Children Alliance members working on the same issues, particularly Save the Children USA and UK;
(5) Design and provide guidance and technical support to new and existing health and nutrition programmes, ensuring high levels of consistency of approach and impact between each one, and other thematic programmes;
(6) Support improvement in quality of health & nutrition programmes;
(7) Ensure that all SC BR health and nutrition programmes operate effectively using the organization’s Monitoring & Evaluation systems, for measuring impact, contributing insights and data to programme learning, and developing best practice to enhance the impact of interventions;
(8) Develop high-quality proposals for health and nutrition work, proactively identifying new opportunities, and responding quickly and professionally to requests for proposals from Save the Children colleagues, in India and internationally;
(9) Facilitate documentation of best practices and experiences that are disseminated through appropriate channels.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualification:
Applicants should possess MBBS, as well as MD (Paediatrics/Obstetrics/ Community Medicine) or Masters in Public Health or Health Management, PhD, or equivalent.

(1) Minimum 10 years’ experience of working on health issues (preferably maternal and child health) and nutrition in India or similar context;
(2) At least five years of experience in programme management and implementation of health programmes, preferably within the NGO sector.
