GAIN fights malnutrition in India through innovative and sustainable models that increase access to affordable nutritious foods among communities vulnerable to malnutrition. GAIN is working with the Government of India, various State Governments, civil society organizations and the private sector to achieve this mission.

GAIN is seeking a dynamic Deputy Country Manager for its India country office.  This is a new position to support the Country Manager in developing the vision and strategy for GAIN India, to secure future funding to make this a reality and to manage successful implementation of the current portfolio of projects.  It will require someone with a broad understanding of GAIN’s areas of work, who can think critically and innovate to develop solutions to drive impact at scale through partnerships with both the public and private sectors.
Responsibilities
Program Development
• Works closely with the Country Manager to develop the vision and strategy for GAIN India in line with GAIN’s global strategy and comparative advantage.
• Leads the development and execution of GAIN’s fundraising, business development strategy and action plan for India (resource mobilization, private sector engagement, etc.) in collaboration with the Investments and Partnerships team and drives the resource mobilization efforts in-country.
• Cultivates relationships with key bi-lateral/multi-lateral donors and private sector stakeholders and proactively pursues relevant opportunities with GAIN’s Investment and Partnerships team.
• Works with the Country Manager and GAIN’s Initiative Leads and Program Development team to identify high priority opportunities, establish and develop collaborations with key stakeholders and develop project proposals to ensure the on-going sustainability of programs.
• Collaborates with the GAIN India team to develop innovative ideas and opportunities for GAIN’s future engagement in India.
Project Management
• In close collaboration with the Country Manager, take responsibility for the strategic management of all projects being implemented by GAIN in India, including effective performance management of sub-contractors and technical consultants and compliance to donor and government standards.
• Makes regular field visits to ensure that project progress is on track and risk mitigation plans are up–to-date.
• Collaborates with Monitoring, Learning and Research (MLR) team in India and at GAIN headquarters to develop a framework to closely monitor program impact and oversee the successful implementation of the research to populate the learning agenda.
Experience
• Minimum of ten years of experience in a leadership/management position, preferably within international development.
• Experience with securing funding and implementing programs of significant scale, preferably in India
• Strong track record of fundraising with statutory, private and corporate donors.
• Broad understanding of public health and community development in general.
• Demonstrated success in building and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural setting.
• Experience of working with the private sector or experience of collaboration with private sector partners.
• Experience of working in a public/private partnership environment is highly desirable.
• Experience of delivering an integrated nutrition/IYCN program is highly desirable.

• Possesses clear and systematic thinking that demonstrates good judgment, expertise in problem solving and creativity.
• Ability to operate across the corporate and public sectors to effectively liaise with private companies, development agencies and governments in multiple cultures.
• Computer literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and Power Point skills.
Education
• Post graduate degree in Business Administration, or suitable equivalent
• Masters in medicine, food sciences, public health or nutrition or social sciences, with adequate experience.
Other requirements
• Fluency in written and verbal English.
• A willingness and ability to travel widely in the country and overseas as and when required.
