PROJECT SUMMARY:

The primary project strategy is to provide technical assistance (TA) to the state and district health systems to improve access to quality FP services. Since IUD service provision has been identified as a major gap in the FP services available in the public health system in India, the project will focus on increasing access to high quality IUD services including post-partum IUD, post abortion IUD and interval IUD services. The project will be implemented over 30 months in Rajasthan and Gujarat. It is designed to improve IUD service delivery by training and coaching providers in 153 facilities that have a caseload of more than 100 deliveries a month. Interventions to strengthen capacity of Districts Health managers, District Data Managers and facility administrators; and community-level communication with women will also be implemented during this time through community volunteers (Accredited Social Health Activists - ASHAs).

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Mobile Clinical Trainer
will be responsible for structured on-the-job / onsite training of IUD providers (doctors, nurses and ANMs). The trainers will travel to project-selected facilities to provide onsite training at the facilities. They will also provide training follow-up and individualized support to the providers. Each Mobile Clinical Trainer Team will be responsible for 13-14 facilities as per assigned territory.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conduct structured on-the-job clinical training on PPIUD, IUD and PAIUD service provision and infection prevention for providers (doctors, nurses and ANMs); training will be based on the competency gaps§

· Collect feedback from the participants at the end of each training/follow-up session and share it with the Clinical Training Specialist and the State Project Manager for their analysis§

· Participate in the mentoring / technical training sessions and meetings organized by EH§

· Prepare monthly plans in consultation with Project Officers§

· Conduct post training follow-up, visit the facilities and spend two days at each facility after four weeks of the initial training to provide onsite individualized mentoring support to reinforce skills learned at the initial training§

· Build rapport with facility teams (including the Medical Officer In-charge of Centers) and execute participatory, self-assessment exercises with the teams to analyze the situation and identify solutions in various aspects of IUD, PPIUD and PA IUD service delivery §

· Facilitate team building and systems improvement and build a positive and enabling environment at the facilities§

· Undertake activities to facilitate the establishment of quality services according to the performance standards, at the supported facilities§

· Discuss and reinforce National guidelines and standards of care at the facilities§

· Perform case audits, observations and ask staff to demonstrate certain clinical skills to understand the competency needs of the teams§

· Collect data to the project in tracking progress of ensure quality of services at facilities during the follow-up support visit to doctors, staff nurses and ANMs.§

· Facilitate reflection, demonstrate and provide feedback with respect to provider – patient interaction and environment in the facility§

· Ensure compliance of program activities with government, donor, and EngenderHealth regulations/requirements including assessing and reporting violations and safeguarding client’s informed and voluntary decision-making (e.g. Tiahrt) based on EngenderHealth and donor guidelines and standard operating procedures.§

· Keep up to date on technical approaches and programmatic priorities through self-study§

· Mentoring checklist filled during onsite visits§

· Participate in review meetings organized by EH team to share experiences and feedback with Project Officers to mobilize support from district officials in relation to supply, staffing, infrastructure, etc.§

· Spend about 70% of her time at Community Health Centers (CHC) for mentoring and support to facility staff§

· Compile monthly reports and share them with Clinical Training Specialist§

· Fulfill other duties assigned by supervisor§

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

· M.B.B.S. / BSc Nursing§

· At least three years of experience of working on family planning, reproductive health, and quality assurance of health facilities is preferable Experience in facilitating training is desirable§

· Experience of working with international NGOs, NGOs, district administration, public health facilities will be an advantage§

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Good knowledge of reproductive health; family planning; IUD - advantages, prevalent myths and misconceptions in community and how to overcome them§

· Good knowledge on quality improvement and quality assurance of health services§

· Strong communication, facilitation, liaison, and motivation skills§

· Good training skills§

· Ability to collect data; expertise in compilation; analysis of data and writing reports§

· Computer skills - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer§

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision§

· Willingness to travel to peripheral health facilities and villages up to 75% of time§
