Programme Officer Communications - WaterAid (Apply by: 17 May 2014)

Job purpose:

The main purpose of this position is to help in developing IEC and BCC materials for diverse programmes of WaterAid Bangladesh.
The position is also responsible for disseminating research findings through appropriate multiple communication channels to reach the wider audiences ie sector actors, civil society and the mass media.

The incumbent will produce digestible materials for diverse set of audiences as well as brief media houses, both print and electronic. In addition, as a member of WaterAid team, s/he will contribute to and be responsible for WaterAid’s internal communications.

Key responsibilities

· Support programmes of WaterAid in developing IEC and BCC materials for diverse audiences in a coordinated way

· Work as a copywriter, copyeditor, layout designer and coordinate with illustrators and printers to produce standard products

· Inscribe popular versions of research findings and play key role in disseminating the same within wider sector

· Maintain strong media relationships on behalf of WaterAid to ensure increased visibility of WaterAid’s activities to wider audiences

· Ensure communication activities are planned and implemented in line with WaterAid’s mission, vision, values and branding guidelines

· Drive, achieve and maintain agreed quality and standard

· Take initiative in strengthening WaterAid’s documentation and internal communications processes

Requisite qualifications and experiences


· 3-4 years’ experience in content development, especially IEC and BCC materials development, creative design, concept generation and copywriting

· Masters or equivalent degree in journalism, mass communication or any other creative discipline from any recognised university

· Mastering skill of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop; hands on experience in designing and printing brochure, newsletter, policy briefs, annual reports etc

· Excellent public presentation and communications skills both in Bangla and English

· Must be a team player with mutual trust and understanding in a mixed team

· Capable to work under pressure, juggling with pooping priorities and meet deadlines


· Experienced in writing media brief, press release, blogs on national and international issues

· Have strong linkage with leading print and electronic media houses

· Experience of working in creative agency

· Event management skills

Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh

Reportable to: Documentation and Communication Specialist

Working hours: Full time (minimum 37.5 hours per week)

Tenure of contract: This is a fixed term position for 3 years with a possibility of extension depending on the performance.
