Agricultural Field Technician

We seek skilled field technician to contribute to agricultural research and dissemination-related activities in India. The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of agronomy basics, familiarity and skill in operating a range of machinery, ability to implement and monitor experimental trials, and the capacity and interest to work with a broad range of partners, including farmers, service providers, and extension.


The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT® (www.cimmyt.org), is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries. The center works to sustainably increase the productivity of maize and wheat systems and thus ensure global food security and reduce poverty. The center's outputs and services include improved maize and wheat varieties and cropping systems, the conservation of maize and wheat genetic resources, and capacity building. CIMMYT belongs to and is funded by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) (www.cgiar.org) and also receives support from national governments, foundations, development banks, and other public and private agencies.

The position will be based in Bihar.

Depending on the successful candidate’s background, core responsibilities may include:

• Conduct practical demonstrations, field days, and informal trainings for farmers and service providers.
• Coordinate participatory trials on crop and resource management in cereal-based systems.
• Collect and report experimental data.
• Oorganize meetings with stakeholders and partners.
• Assist with monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
• Assist the senior project staff as needed.

Requirements:

• 10 + 2 with (4 years of experience) or BSc-level degree (with 2 years experience) in agricultural sciences or aligned fields
• Proficiency in English as well as the local language in the posting region.

The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds. CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package, with a range of benefits including health insurance.
