Position Summary:

As Chief Executive of CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF), the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the success of CIF.
The ED takes forward the work to accomplish CIF’s mission and vision as finalised by the Board, accountable to its various stakeholders.

The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the Executive Director and s/he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and approved policies of the Board.

The Executive Director will provide inputs to the Board to enable it to carry out its governance functions.

Principal Responsibilities/ Accountabilities

1. Governance

Ensure regular meetings of the Governing Board and Management Committee

Keep the Board fully informed on the operations of CHILDLINE India Foundation, new programmes to be initiated and on all the important factors influencing it

Work with the Board to enable it to fulfil its governance functions and to focus its attention on long-range strategic issues
  • Inform the Board about trends, issues, problems and activities and facilitate policy making
  • Ensure timeliness and quality in reports sent to the Board
  • Bring appropriate issues to the Board for discussion
  • Help the Board monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of CIF’s activities and provide inputs for future course of action.
  • Manage the Board’s due diligence process to ensure timely attention to core issues.
  • Ensure the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitor compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Suggest to the Governing Board policies and strategies to enhance activities of CIF and quality of services to children.

2. Management and Administration/ Operational Excellence

General oversight of all CIF activities - manage the day-to-day operations, ensure a smooth functioning and efficiently run organisation.
  • Document key organisational systems and processes to ensure consistency
  • Institutionalise key organisational systems and processes
  • Manage physical resources of the organisation

Provide the vision and direction to develop and execute cost effective programmes of high quality keeping in view
  • Timelines and quality of plan implementation
  • Increase in types of interventions to address a wider spectrum of issues

Oversee the fiscal activities of the organisation including budgeting, reporting and audit
  • Work with the Board to deliver financing to support short and long term goals
  • Put in place a robust fund management system
  • Recommend the yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage CIF’s resources within the guidelines provided and according to current laws and regulations

3. Fund Raising
  • Develop an effective fund development programme in order to supplement Government funds where needed.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit donor prospects

4. Leadership/ Team Building
  • Build, motivate and manage an energised team to deliver the vision and mission of CIF:
  • Ensure goals of CIF and its programmes are articulated for all personnel of CIF at the Headquarters and its Regional Offices
  • Provide a programme for building capabilities within the organisation and the team to effectively deliver the vision and mission of CIF
  • Spearhead the child rights/child protection movement.

5. Visibility Building
  • Create an effective programme for communicating Child Rights, the CHILDLINE service and the CHILDLINE Brand to all stakeholders
  • Ensure that CIF/ Child Rights are consistently presented in a strong positive image to relevant stakeholders
  • Serve as chief spokesperson for CIF, assuring proper representation for CIF & CHILDLINE
  • Be an advocate for issues relevant to CIF, its services and stakeholders
  • Initiate, develop, and maintain cooperative relationships with key stakeholders and influential members of the community
  • Work with concerned agencies to promote legislative and regulatory policies that will address child protection issues
  • Assure that fundraising activity is held regularly
  • Remain informed of developments in the sector and take appropriate actions
  • Be willing to travel to all parts of the country for monitoring and dialogue with state level officials
  • Regular interaction with the State Governments, other Central Government Ministries/ Departments for follow up on the issues related to CIF
  • Any other activities as required from time to time.

CANDIDATE PROFILE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Post Graduate degree in social work, social sciences, management, with a minimum of 55 % of marks from a recognized university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience with at least 5 years of experience in a senior management position handling diverse teams. Experience in the social sector is mandatory. Exposure to the child sector would be an added qualification.

Personal Characteristics: The ideal candidate will be:

  • A self-starter with the ability to manage relationships, groups and conflict and deliver in a high stress environment.
  • Have a clear understanding of the relevance and scope of a national partnership organisation.
  • Have the vision to identify initiatives that will make the organisation relevant to the community through research and advocacy of the findings.
  • Results oriented with ability for self-appraisal.
  • Have experience in leading a team of senior professionals
  • Have experience in integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management and introducing management systems for the smooth running of the organisation.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to make persuasive presentations and negotiation skills.

  • Basic understanding of budgeting and statement of accounts.

Reporting to this position: All Heads of Departments

Remuneration will be based on candidate qualifications and experience.
