Job Description: The primary area of responsibility for this position is overall management of Breakthrough’s finances and ensuring the organization’s financial well-being. Responsibilities in this area will comprise of financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, monitoring, reporting, and the development and implementation of financial procedures. The secondary area of responsibility is general administration. Responsibilities would include development of BT’s administrative capacity and maintenance of consistency in administrative procedures and practices.

Financial Oversight (80%)

Key responsibility shall be to ensure that program activities related goals are met through accurate accounting procedures and reports and ensure processes are in place to support:
• Efficiently running BT’s financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reports on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis;
• Internal controls, procedures, and policies are understood, practiced and complied with by all staff
• Coordinate with the statutory auditors, Donor auditors and ensure unqualified audit reports. Developing annual plan in coordination with the Operations Director and Program/State Leads/Centre Leads.
• Maintenance and regular updating of BT’s financial management documents, including cash-flow forecasts, balance sheets and annual plan and MIS
• Work with resource mobilization team at the initial stages before being submitted to the donor for approval
• 100% compliance with all applicable statutory and fiduciary regulations (e.g. FCRA Registration, Foreign Exchange, taxation and labor laws)
• Compliance with the donors agreements
• Co-ordinate and maintain a cash forecasting system to ensure that adequate funds are available to meet the working requirements of the programs
• Payments are made in a timely and secure manner across all the country operations
• Monitor ongoing levels of expenditure on individual programs against budget, and provide timely advice of likely over or under-spends to the Vice President and Director – Program Implementation and the relevant Program & Finance teams
• Ensure respective Program team understand variance implications and how to respond to and manage them effectively
• Liaise with local legal advisors when necessary
• Manage and keep the accounts team motivated and take them to the next level.
• Orientation and training of staff and consultants on BT’s financial reporting procedures
In partnership with the office of VP - Finance, Operations, and Planning (U.S) –
• Participate in the development of global budgets and reporting systems
• Be an active member of the global finance and operations team
• Assist in the alignment of procedures and operations across offices
• Prepare reports for the global management team.

Administration (20%)

• Providing leadership in the development of the BT’s administration procedures and systems
• Ensure that agreed administrative procedures and guidelines are adhered to.
• Managing the administrative aspects of procurement and financial management for all locations
• Ensure that all contractual commitments are financially sound and appropriate for the circumstances of the program
• Manage and support the performance and development of the Breakthrough India administration staff
• Creation, testing, revision and updating of policies, manuals, templates, and guidelines and information sheets

Desired Profile:

• MBA Finance or CA in Financial Planning and Analysis with a minimum of 15 years and maximum of 20 years of experience.
• Prior experience working with international nonprofit organizations is desirable.
• Understanding of tax and other regulatory procedures particularly FCRA essential,
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential.
• Solid understanding of organization budget, funding structures and managing donor funds preferred.
• Exceptional inter-personal skills that translate into an ability to straddle multiple worlds and work successfully with extremely diverse constituencies.
• High multi-tasking abilities to simultaneously manage multiple tasks, functions, projects, grants and constituencies.
• Strong team working skills including the abilities to delegate and work cooperatively with people at various levels of responsibilities, and supervise, mentor and direct staff.
• Ability and flexibility to work across time zones.
• High professional and personal integrity.
