Program Associate - Evidence Action (Apply by: 11 April 2014)

Job Title: Program Associate

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Evidence Action
is a US-headquartered non-profit dedicated to scaling proven, cost-effective interventions to alleviate poverty. In 2013, Evidence Action assumed management and growth responsibility for Deworm the World Initiative (DtWI). In India, DtWI works with the Indian partner Action Foundation for Social Services (AFSS) , a section 25 company registered in Bangalore, India and ministries of health, education, and women and child development of State Governments to support state-wide school-based deworming programs.

Academic and research institutions have made significant contributions to the evidence base for school-based deworming, and DtWI’s continued engagement ensures a maintained focus on evidence and impact. J-PAL lists school-based deworming as a ‘best buy’ in education and health: “with hundreds of millions of children still at risk of worm infection worldwide, providing free school-based deworming treatment is an easy policy “win” for health, education, and development.” The evidence for school-based deworming led the Copenhagen Consensus Center, in 2008 and again in 2012, to identify this intervention as one of the most efficient and cost-effective solutions to the global challenges facing us today.

In India, DtWI works with state governments of Bihar, Delhi, and Rajasthan to carry out school-based deworming programs. It has also secured a multi-year USAID grant for expansion into other states, with additional donors in the near future to fund further expansion. As part of this expansion, DtWI-India is inviting an application for the Executive Assistant to the Country Director. The position is based at the New Delhi office.
