Population Services International (PSI) is a non-profit, Indian Society which began operations in 1988. PSI is dedicated to the improvement of public health through promotion of products, services and information which empower people to protect themselves from preventable diseases. PSI currently operates in 10 states with a full-time and contract staff of 1200 persons. PSI is rolling out a project to improve the maternal and child health outcomes by (1) rollout the World Health Organization Safe Childbirth Checklist program in birth facilities in approximately thirty districts in Uttar Pradesh, and (2) measure whether the program reduces complications and deaths of mothers and newborns. The Safe Childbirth Checklist Project is being implemented by the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) with financial assistance from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). A. POSITION PURPOSE:

The Manager Programs (Coaching) will support the Intervention Lead in training, technical backstopping and mentoring the coaches based in about 60 public health facilities across the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Manager Program will help resolve issues during the Support phase of Implementation with the help of Implementation Lead and Team Leads


B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Conduct initial training of coaches using tools and materials developed under the BetterBirth program.

• Participate in initial orientation and coaching for coaches in the hubs /facility staff for implementation of the checklist.

• Develop interval refresher training with inputs from technical teams including PSI and HSPH.

• Review MIS data weekly with DCOP to evaluate issues-focusing on the Support phase of implementation. These may include lack of progress of facilities, birth attendants not taking up the checklist, transportation challenges, etc.

• Regular communication with and reporting to Lead- Implementation about progress and challenges in Support phase of implementation.

• Develop various training manual to intervention as and when need arises

• Enhance interpersonal communication skills of program teams for checklist training and coaching.

• Address issues facing coaches in the field and support them on dealing with those issues.

• Extensive travel to support the coaches in the field , while doing support visit, in coordination with Implementation Lead and TL

C. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• M.Sc Nursing (Maternal and Child Health) or degree in any medicine field

• A degree in Public Health will be an added advantage

• Strong technical knowledge in Maternal and Child Health

• At least five-seven years of teaching experience for nurses / public health professionals

• Management qualification/experience and prior experience of working in Public health programs would be valued.
