Enrollment in India Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Programme


SEEKING APPLICATIONS FOR 2-YEAR INDIA EPIDEMIC INTELLIGENCE SERVICE (EIS) PROGRAMME

National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)-Delhi, in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), is currently hosting the India Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Programme, modeled on the US EIS Programme. This is a joint venture between India and USA, aimed at preparing public health professionals for leadership positions at district, state and national levels. The India EIS Programme has been recognized by National Board of Examination (NBE) to appear for DNB Part 2 as per the laid down procedures.

Applications are invited for the enrolment of a minimum of 15 outstanding public health professionals for India EIS, commencing in September 2014 for a period of two years. Out of this, approximately a one month training would be at NCDC with other training opportunities offered throughout the training to fulfill prescribed core activities of learning, to acquire the needed skills of a practicing field epidemiologist.


Eligibility:

(1) MBBS plus MD (Public Health) OR MBBS plus MD (Clinical/ Para-Clinical) with two years public health experience OR MBBS with PG Diploma in Clinical/Para-Clinical field from any recognized institution with three years of PH experience OR MBBS from any recognized institution with five years of PH experience, may also apply;

(2) 25-45 years at the time of application;

(3) Sponsored/nominated candidates should be regular/permanent employees of Central/ State Health Service or equivalent viz. ESI, Railways, Municipal Corporations, Local Bodies, etc. Out of 15 seats, 12 seats are state sponsored candidates* and 3 for self sponsored candidates**. In case self sponsored candidates are not available, the seats will be filled up from amongst the state-sponsored candidates. Sponsored candidates shall be paid full salary and other admissible allowances for the two year training period by their sponsoring authority.

Competitive Selection: All applicants, both state sponsored and self sponsored, shall undergo a stringent competitive process for the selection. Sponsorship/ nomination does not automatically guarantee selection. The nominating agencies will recommend and forward the application of employee with the agreement to release the employee to NCDC for the duration of the two-year programme, in case of his/her selection to the course.

Training Fees, etc: No training fee will be charged to the candidate. However, candidates are required to meet living expenses including boarding and lodging on their own during the period of training.
